A hidden gem of winter time, a gorgeous retreat that became the home of Dalai Lama and ancient Tibetans, Dharamshala is the capital of Himachal Pradesh that’s frequented by Buddhist and nature enthusiasts seeking somewhere quieter and delightful. With the Himalayan Range around, you’ll never get used to be in a perpetually delightful place and we start from a tour in Amritsar. The Golden Temple of the Sikhs is known for the 24-carat gilded dome, made of 400kg of gold leaf that’s definitely a worldwide achievement of itself. Then we leave for Jallianwala Bagh, which is a silent witness of the massacre against unarmed protesters that took place in this place after the British took over. The Maharaja Ranjit Singh Summer Palace Museum will cheer you up as you get to peek into the living quarters of a royalty within the summer palace that was built in Sikh style architecture of the 18th century. We’ll be at the Wagah Border, also known as the Indo-Pak border, for the daily evening Flag Retreat ceremony before sunset. From Amritsar, we take a scenic ride to the next city, Dalhousie, a city surrounded by greenery. We’ll go on an excursion to Khajjiar and Chamba, the former being the Switzerland of India because of the cool breeze with a hint of pine from the forest and deodar trees. We will visit the sacred temple of Naga, Khajji Nag Temple, one of the oldest in Himachal Pradesh. Chamba has stunning views of the Himachal valleys and will melt away your stress when you lay your eyes on the picturesque streams, lakes, and green meadows. From Dalhousie, we make our way to Dharamshala, the city of pilgrims and home of Dalai Lama. It is also the city of refugees, meaning shelter in Hindu, and earned its name from the fact that many Tibetans in exile ran here. We’ll head to the Tibetan Medical Centre where experts and doctors continue to practice and preserve the ancient Tibetan medicines as well as other old forms of Tibetan art and knowledge. Then we head to St. John Church, one of the oldest churches to exist in Dharamshala that’s best known for the beautiful Belgian stained-glass and ancient decors. Then to the Tea Garden which has plantations surrounding the Kunal Pathri Temple for the ultimate view to finish off your trip in Dharamshala.
